The building has two plaques. The first reads:

"William Maxfield Building
circa 1850

This structure was originally
two nineteenth-century buildings that were
combined and restored in 1998 with
assistance provided by WHALE."

the second simply reads:

"c1840
William Maxfield"
Group that erected the marker: WHALE
