This beautiful villa, located in the bucolic neighborhood of Vinehrad, was the home of Capek brothers.
They were both artists and writers and either Karel of Joseph created the word "robot" originated in the verb for "Work" common in Slavonic languages, "robota". The word appeared in the play R.U.R. by Karel, but later he wrote he got inspired by his brother who should be considered the real creator of the word.
The house was recently bought by the City to Capek family for the considerable amount of 77 million CZK
There is a plaque on the facade with the following text:
(translated from the original Czech)
"At this place, Karel Capek and Josef Capek, excellent Czech writers and fighters against the fascism, lived and worked."
There is a great text describing the house and its relation with the brothers in the following address: (
