This relief sculpture has three words inscribed in the art work - horizontally, at the top right is “DRAMA”; vertically, at the lewer left is “MUSIC”; and vertically, at left center is “DANCE”.
From the Smithsonian AIC Description:
A bas-relief of a standing, full-length semi-nude male figure. His proper left arm is bent upwards, and he holds a mask in that hand with a pair of ballet shoes hung from his arm. His proper right arm hangs down, with the hand outspread. A lyre is at his feet. He wears a wreath upon his head. The bas-relief is on an exterior wall.
From the Smithsonian AIC Remarks:
Gutterson and Corlett designed the Community Theater building, a Works Progress Administration project. Initial designs were drawn up in 1938 and construction began in the early 1940s. However, completion was delayed because of World War II, and the building was not completed until 1950.
