This lifesized plaster cast sculpture depicts a central figure, the Thinker, sitting and clothed with his left hand covering his mouth and his elbow resting on his knee. On the left, a naked man lounges on his side and looks downward representing Twilight. On the right, a naked woman lounges on her side while looking ahead representing Dawn.
The accompanying plaque indicates that this is a replica of an original work from 1519-1534 which is located in the Medici Chapel , Tomb of San Lorenzo de Medici, Florence.
The plaster cast was made by H. De Sachy in Paris.
