This mural depicts Gilbert Arizona in the World War One era circa 1017. It measures approximately 10' by 50' and is on the side on the American Legion Merrill Mitchell Post 39. It was sponsored by the Gilbert Leadership Class XXI of the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce.
The artist is Mary Opat, a member of the Gilbert Visual Art League. She designed the mural to bring art to the downtown area while preserving Gilbert's rich history around trains, agriculture and veterans.
The mural was completed in April, 2013 with a public debut on May 1, 2013.
