King County Field serves small commercial passenger airlines, cargo carriers, private aircraft owners, helicopters, corporate jets, and military and other aircraft. During World War II, Boeing Field was taken over by the federal government, closed to the public, and devoted to production of thousands of B-17 and B-29 bombers. After the war, the airport, restored to civilian use, was the area’s primary passenger airport until Seattle-Tacoma International Airport came into service in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The airport is also home to the Boeing Company’s 737 aircraft flight-test program, along with other Boeing operations. The Museum of Flight is located there also.
