"A Basílica do Sagrado Coração de Jesus é uma basílica situada na Póvoa de Varzim em Portugal, pela rua Gomes de Amorim, à margem da estrada nacional para Viana do Castelo.
Apesar de localizada no Norte da cidade, o templo faz parte da Paróquia da Matriz. A construção iniciou-se em 1890 e em 1900 é divulgada a planta original do capelão Padre Ferreira, professor de desenho no Colégio do Espírito Santo em Braga. No entanto, os detalhes da frontaria da basílica, em estilo neoclássico, diferem da planta primitiva.
O templo é notado pela cúpula, onde se encontra a imagem do Sagrado Coração de Jesus, uma escultura de Jesus Cristo. A base deste domo é vazada por doze janelas em arco que permitem a entrada da luz, dando leveza à estrutura e oferecendo a ilusão de uma auréola celestial."

"Sagrado Coração de Jesus Basilica or Sacred Heart of Jesus Basilica is a basilica located in the city of Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal. It is the largest temple in Póvoa de Varzim.
Despite being located in the northern area of the city, by Gomes de Amorim street, the temple is part of Matriz Parish. The construction began in 1890 and by 1900 the original plan by chaplain Priest Ferreira, drawing professor in the Espirito Santo College in Braga, was revealed. However, the details of the basilica's facade, in Neoclassical style, differs from the original plan and, due to its history, has eclectic elements.
The temple is known by its dome, where the icon of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is found, a sculpture of Jesus Christ. The base of this dome is lit by twelve windows in arc that allow entrance of light, giving lightness to the structure and offering the illusion of a celestial aureole.
The basilica has an estimated mean capacity of about 2,000 people. The temple is 30.10 meters in height, topped by a 4.5 meter high statue."
