The recent renovation works in Piazza Solferino brought into the square a new, large and visible sundial. The sundial that has a stylus parallel to the axis Earth's rotation whose shadow tells the time zone's standard time, and at a M and the symbol of the bull's depicted on the ground, true solar noon in Turin, about half an hour before the conventional is indicated. The sundial is a work of the most famous Italian gnomonist, Lucio Maria Morra, mathematician, painter and animator. On the sundial he collaborated with architect Raphael Bocco.

The sundial located in Piazza Solferino, finally returned to its original design to the place after hosting too long a pavilion designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Olympic Games in 2006. It is a pseudo-horizontal sundial: The shadow cast by a gnomon polar flows on an ellipse of 14 meters x 11.80 meters depicted in the paving of the square, on the south side, where the exposure to the sun is more favorable.
Sundial Type: Horizontal - Flat base, Ground or Pedestal mounted dial plate
