This station, a NGS vertical control mark, is located in Easton, CT. It is set horizontally in the top of a large rock outcrop at the north edge of Rock House Road, just east of a junction with Valley Road.
The NGS description is as follows:
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1985
4.4 KM (2.75 MI) SOUTH FROM REDDING RIDGE.
2.3 KM (1.4 MI) SOUTH ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 58 FROM THE JUCNTION OF
CROSS HIGHWAY IN REDDING RIDGE, THENCE 1.1 KM (0.7 MI) SOUTHEAST ALONG
PINE TREE ROAD, THENCE 1.0 KM (0.65 MI) NORTHEAST ALONG ROCK HOUSE
ROAD TO THE MARK ON THE LEFT, 4.8 METERS (16.0 FT) NORTHWEST OF THE
CENTERLINE OF ROCK HOUSE ROAD, 44.2 METERS (145.0 FT) NORTHEAST OF THE
CENTER OF VALLEY ROAD.
THE MARK IS 1.9 METERS W FROM A WITNESS POST
THE MARK IS 1.1 M ABOVE ROAD.
The rock is quite prominent. The witness post is still in place as described. The mark is in the top of the rock, and you will need good shoes to scale the rock to visit the mark. Also beware of poison ivy.
