This station, a NGS standard vertical control mark, is located in Redding, CT. It is set horizontally in a small rock outcrop near the west edge of Black Rock turnpike (CT Rt. 58), just north of a junction with Pinetree Road.
The NGS description is as follows:
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1985
2.2 KM (1.35 MI) SOUTH FROM REDDING RIDGE.
2.2 KM (1.35 MI) SOUTH ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 58 FROM THE JUNCTION OF
CROSS HIGHWAY TO THE MARK ON THE RIGHT, IN FRONT OF HOUSE 81,
6.5 METERS (21.5 FT) WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, 6.2 METERS
(20.5 FT) SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF POWER POLE 1578, 1.5 METERS (5.0 FT)
SOUTHWEST OF MAIL BOX 81.
THE MARK IS 0.30 M ABOVE GROUND.
Park vehicle at the Pinetree Road intersection, and walk northwest on Rt. 58 to the mark. It is in plain sight in the rock outcrop as described. Notice that the station is at the roadside edge of a private residence; i.e. in their front lawn. Although the station is close to the road, and there were no problems logging this mark, this should be taken into consideration.
This station is also loggable on the Geocaching site. When visiting this mark, consider logging on both sites. Thank you.
