O roku 1924 se u nás vždy v predvánocním case staví vánocní stromy a za úcelem sbírek pro opuštené deti. První Vánocní strom republiky byl postaven na popud spisovatele Rudolfa Tesnohlídka v Brne na Námestí Svobody. Proto letos to již bude 85 let. První vánocní strom byl skácen v bílovických lesích poblíž Hájenky Lišky Bystroušky. V roce 1999 byl na tomto míste zbudován památník pripomínající tuto událost.
