There were once at least two other timeball structures in South Australia, in Port Pirie and Port Adelaide, but both were mounted on existing buildings
The ball was raised manually to halfmast at five minutes to 1pm, and to the masthead at three minutes to 1pm – a total distance of 13 feet. t. The ball was then dropped by electric command from the Adelaide Observatory at precisely 1pm.
In 1992, the Tower was restored and a mechanism installed that operates the Time Ball by electric motor. The ball still drops at 1pm daily.

Visit Instructions:
You must, of course, physically visit the waymark. Posting a photo of your visit is good, but try and take a photograph of the site distinct from an existing photo—a different angle, or something overlooked by previous visitors. Include a short description of your visit: was the ball or cannon in use, a popular tourist destination, anything new added, anything changed? Work towards keeping the waymark current.
