This memorial is for former Major League Baseball player for the New York Yankees and the current manager of the Los Angelos Dodgers, Don Mattingly. It is located in Garvin Park in Evansville, IN.
"Donnie Baseball", as he is commonly referred to as, played Little League Baseball on the fields at this park from 1970-1973. He went on to become one of the Yankee greats in MLB.
The monument reads:
"Don Mattingly: It All Started Here
On This field from 1970-1973, while playing in the Evansville North Little League, "Donnie Baseball" first learned how to play the game.
In the years since, in the game of baseball and in the game of life, he has always made his hometown proud ... by doing things the Don Mattingly way."
