Durant la saison estivale de 1994, le campus de l'Université Laval s'est doté d'un cadran solaire du même genre que celui qui a été aménagé sur les plaines d'Abraham en 1988. Ces deux cadrans solaires ont été conçus par monsieur Rafaël Sanchez, professeur titulaire de 1976 à 1994 au département des sciences géomatiques de l’Université Laval.
Le monument du cadran solaire supporte un plateau horizontal composé de 6 courbes elliptiques principales correspondant à 6 mois de l'année. Un style est disposé dans un plan vertical de façon à créer de l'ombre sur la planche de courbes. Le cadran solaire indique l'heure suivant l'intersection de l'ombre du style avec la courbe elliptique correspondant à la journée du mois. À l'aide d'une bonne interpolation, on peut y apprécier l'heure avec une exactitude d'environ une minute. Le plan vertical du style est dans le méridien du lieu et par conséquent il est orienté dans la direction nord-sud. Le prolongement de l'arête du style pointe vers l'étoile polaire et son angle d'élévation par rapport au plan horizontal correspond à la latitude du lieu soit 46° 47'. En d'autres mots, l'arête du style est parallèle à l'axe de rotation de la Terre.
À la différence de celui des plaines d’Abraham, le cadran solaire du campus est fonctionnel toute l’année puisque son concepteur a prévu un deuxième plateau de courbes elliptiques servant du 1er octobre au 1er avril.
Le monument se situe en plein milieu du campus entre les pavillons Alexandre-Vachon, Charles-De Koninck, Jean-Charles-Bonenfant et Andrien-Pouliot.

During the summer of 1994, the campus of Laval University has a sundial of the same kind as that which has been laid on the Plains of Abraham in 1988. Both sundials were designed by Mr. Rafael Sanchez, professor from 1976 to 1994 at the department of Geomatics at Laval University .
The sundial monument supports a horizontal tray with 6 main elliptic curves corresponding to six months of the year. A style is disposed in a vertical plane so as to create a shadow on the plate curves. The sundial shows the hour of the intersection of the shadow of the style with the elliptic curve corresponding to the day of the month. Using a good interpolation , one can assess the time to an accuracy of about one minute. The vertical plane of style in the meridian of the place and therefore is oriented in a north-south direction. The extension of the edge of the style to the North Star and its elevation angle relative to the horizontal plane corresponds to the latitude of 46 ° 47 ' . In other words , the edge of the style is parallel to the axis of rotation of the Earth .
Unlike the Plains of Abraham, the campus sundial is functional throughout the year as his designer provided a second tray for elliptic curves from October 1 to April 1.
The monument is located in the middle of campus between blocs Alexandre-Vachon, Charles-De Koninck , Jean-Charles-Bonenfant and Andrien-Pouliot.
