This was the town hall for Madrid, until it was moved to near the Museo del Prado. The plaza can be dated back to the Medieval times . It was named Plaza de San Salvador because of the nearby church that was associated with it. It was also used as a jail. Construction began in 1645 and wasn't completed until 1696.
