EN: The villa on the Gellertstrasse was designed in 1873 by Johann Jakob Stehlin the Younger (1826-1894) for the banker Hermann La Roche and his family. The neo-baroque building with a large park is a typical example of Stehlin's residential designes and the taste of the upper class of this time. For several years now, the European Institute of the University of Basel is housed in the property.
DE: Die Villa an der Gellertstrasse wurde 1873 von Johann Jakob Stehlin d.J. (1826-1894) für den Bankier Hermann La Roche und seine Familie entworfen. Das neo-barocke Gebäude mit einem ausgedehnten Park ist ein typisches Beispiel für Stehlins Villen und dem Geschmack der Oberschicht jener Zeit. Seit einigen Jahren ist das Europa-Institut der Universität Basel in dem Anwesen untergebracht.
