"O edifício da estação Nova de Coimbra foi construído entre 1925 e 1931, para rematar o final do ramal ferroviário entre esta e a Estação Velha, terminado em 1884. No ano de 1923 foi apresentado o projecto do edifício, da autoria dos arquitectos Cotinelli Telmo e Luís Cunha.
É um exemplar da arquitectura do ferro de gosto classicizante e dimensões monumentais. A fachada principal é marcada pelo corpo central em pedra, onde se abrem três portas simétricas de acesso à gare, ladeadas por colunelos e frontões imponentes, sendo o remate - um frontão elaborado que engloba um grande relógio - o elemento mais marcante do conjunto.
Este corpo central é ladeado por dois outros semicirculares e facetados, rasgados por janelões em arco de volta perfeita, aos quais se adossam, de cada lado, dois corpos rectangulares marcados por pilastras que dividem estreitos panos murários onde se abrem janelas rectangulares, no piso térreo, e quadrangulares, no piso superior. Os corpos laterais acompanham o interior da gare.
No interior, o átrio de acesso à gare possui pormenores decorativos interessantes, nomeadamente o elemento em gesso colocado sobre a porta central, a cobertura em vidro e ferro, formando motivos geométricos, e as molduras das portas. A cobertura das plataformas da gare é feita por alpendres suportados por colunelos, estruturas de ferro típicas da arquitectura deste tipo de serviços. "
