A post office has been located in Wellston since September 19, 1884. The area was originally part of the Old Kickapoo Reservation. The town is named for Christian T. Wells, who opened a trading post on the reservation in the early 1880s. The area was opened for white settlement with the Land Run of May 23, 1895. It currently serves a town with a population of 777.

The post office is located at 401 2nd Street and is open Mon-Fri from 8:30 - 4:15. It is open for one hour on Saturday from 9-10:00.
