The city of Surakarta, is popularly known as "Solo", a more euphonic appellation. Linking this fine city to the wider world is a train system, that runs the length and breadth of the great and populous island of Java, where cities, towns, and villages are joined together in a network of transportation. This station is the main for the city, though there are two others, within the city limits, to the east and west.

In design, fairly standard. The station buildings run along the tracks. Inside, ticket counters, waiting areas, small vendors selling needed goods and a few services, and outside taxi drivers, ready to whisk you away around town. Entry to the station is unrestricted, but to reach the tracks requires the purchase of a train ticket.
