Crossing the Kettle River to the east of Grand Forks is yet another railway bridge left behind when the CPR/Great Western Railway departed the area.
Abandoned in about 1988, this bridge has since been redecked and is now part of the Columbia & Western Rail Trail. This trail joins, or is part of, the Trans Canada Trail. This 162 Km long trail follows the old CPR railbed from Castlegar, British Columbia to Midway, B.C. This is a long hike or, for some, a one day bike ride. For most, though, it would be more like a two day bike ride. It is a very scenic trail, with bridges, trestles and tunnels, deep valleys, mountain scenery throughout, and Arrow Lake at the east end and the Kettle River at the west end.
