About the person: From the New York Times (visit link) "J. Paul Leonard, the former president of San Francisco State University who saw the institution grow to 12,000 students from 800 during his term, died on Friday. He was 93 and had lived in Walnut Creek for several years.

Dr. Leonard became San Francisco State's president in 1945 and left in 1957 to take over American University in Beirut until 1961. He then headed a program in India for Columbia University, from which he had received a doctoral degree."
