La Borde House is one of Rio Grande City's best preserved and most well-known historic properties. Originally built as a single family house ca. 1897, Rio Grande City merchant Francois La Borde added two, 2-story wings designed by San Antonio architect Leo Diehlman to the front of his home and opened a hotel about 1915.
The hotel features a variety of architectural details including the extended front-gabled parapets of the projecting front wings and intricately corbelled brickwork is seen in the parapets and throughout the building.
Also interesting is that this courtyard (as a group with others in Rio Grande City) are considered contributing elements in the historic district.
