The reason why citizens of a small village in East Bohemia - Slavhostice decided to commission a statue of St George is connected probably with the fact that in Middle Ages in near wood a church dedicated to the Patron Saint had stood. In 1863 they addressed a sculptor Václav Bydžovský to make an equestrian statue of the Saint. The statue was dedicated in 1863 as a gift of Mr. & Mrs. Novotny from Slavhostice. It depicts St George on horse with a spear in his hands stabbing a dragon.
