An almost forgotten local event has been commemorated by the sculptor Don Lawler of Stephensport, KY. in 1954 meteorites struck near Sylacauga and one hit the home of Ann Hodges which then ricocheted and hit her. The rock was carted off to the Alabama Museum of Natural History in Tuscaloosa, AL.

The sculptor many years later was picking up some of the fine white marble to make sculptures elsewhere when he learned of the meteorite strike and designed the sculpture.
