The fountain is made of red sandstone. On the center column Neptune is shown standing upright on a fish and holding a trident in his hands. The water gushes out of the heads of winged fish on the four sides of the center column.

Neptune (Latin: Neptunus) was the Roman god of freshwater and the sea in Roman religion. He is the counterpart of the Greek god Poseidon. In the Greek-influenced tradition, Neptune was the brother of Jupiter and Pluto, each of them presiding over the realms of Heaven, our earthly world, and the Underworld, respectively.
Like Poseidon, Neptune was worshipped by the Romans also as a god of horses, under the name Neptunus Equester, a patron of horse-racing.
