Located in front of Owens Hall on the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) campus and in front of an obelisk dedicated to all graduating Surveying classes are a few dedicated benches made of wood. This particular bench has a small, metal plaque that reads:

A butterfly is delicate yet strong. It is a
"flying gem, a winged flower," and a source
of joy. In commemoration of a life who
brought "butterfly smiles" to those around
her, we celebrate and remember a special
young woman in the OIT family:

Karirose Kavita Nichols
1983-2006

I could find no obituary for Karirose but found a few local webpages that mentioned her being involved in Track & Field and on the Swim Team for the local Klamath Union High School. It could also be assumed that she was in the Surveying program, hence her bench being located in front of this monument.
