"At the CN Tower in Toronto, Leaning Over a 116-Story Deck
By ELAINE GLUSAC
A landmark of the Toronto skyline is providing travelers with a dose of extreme adventure starting this summer. The CN Tower is home to a new attraction called EdgeWalk, which will allow visitors to walk around the observation deck, 1,168 feet, or 116 stories, above ground. Guided groups of six to eight walkers (who must be 13 or older) will be attached by harness to an overhead safety rail that encircles the deck, absent of any hand rails.
The first of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, EdgeWalk is higher than its precursors, the 630-foot-tall SkyWalk in Auckland, New Zealand, and the 764-foot SkyWalkX in Macao.
At EdgeWalk, the experience runs 90 minutes, with the actual trip around the five-foot-wide walkway 20 to 30 minutes, depending on how much time walkers dawdle, leaning out over the edge. Tickets for this vertigo-inducing thrill cost 175 Canadian dollars, about the same in U.S. dollars, and go on sale June 1."
