Mohutná válcovitá vež, nazývaná "Otakarova bašta", je jednou nejlépe zachovaných cástí nekdejšího stredovekého opevnení mesta Cáslavi. Spolu s jihozápadním pásmem hradeb nyní tvorí unikátní ukázku obranného mestského systému tzv. francouzského typu, používaného v Ceských zemích na prelomu 13. a 14. století. Otakarova bašta pochází z let 1330-1340. Je pozustatkem tzv. Brodské brány. Brodská brána byla proražena v hradbe v místech dnešní ulice Klimenta Cermáka. Byla chránena vysokou válcovou veží (Otakarova bašta). Kulisová brána s predbraním prošla v letech 1534-1539 úpravami a v roce 1802 zcela zborena. Válcová vež má prumer 8m a je vysoká 22m. Puvodne prístupná pouze po ochozu byla novogoticky upravena a doplnena novým vchodem z ulicní úrovne. V roce 1883 byla pseudogoticky prestavena a v této podobe se dochovala dodneška. V sedmdesátých letech 20. století prošla rekonstrukcí. Od roku 2003 vež slouží jako vyhlídková stavba.

Depicted massive cylindrical tower is called "Otakar bastion" and it is one of the best preserved part of the former medieval city fortifications of Cáslav city. Otakar bastion comes from the years 1330 to 1340. This cylindrical tower has a diameter of eight meters and is 22 meters high. In the seventies of the 20th century it was renovated. Since 2003 the tower serves as a lookout.
