This area is a state park with graduated beach landing access for kayak and canoes. There is plenty of free parking. There is not a launch fee nor is there a fee to park here. There are 3 different waterways that all have a little different feel
The Illinois & Michigan Canal is a 60 foot wide channel that has a negligble flow rate so one may paddle in either direction equally as well.
The Illinois river is about 200 yards wide and has all sandy beaches. There are Bald eagles, egrets and many types of ducks that frequent this area. There are many backwaters areas to explore. This is a slow moving river so it may be paddled in either direction equally as well.
The Mazon river is accessible by paddling directly across the Illinois river from the launch area into the Mazon. The Mazon is heavily shaded river that offers a quiet paddle for those that want a secluded paddle. All three waterways are beginner friendly and there is also
kayak / canoe rentals and kayak tours offered near the launch area. Here is a picture of the beach area for launching.
