The name of the restaurant "Hradní bašta" is probably intentionaly ambiguous in Czech. While the "hradní" means "castle" and it reflects vicinity of a castle, which is located nearby, the Czech word "bašta" means either "bastion" or it is colloquial expression for "delicious meal".
"The family run guesthouse and restaurant Hradní Bašta overlooks the main square of the picturesque town of Becov nad Teplou, situated ca 20 km from Karlovy Vary (in the direction of Plzen) in the protected Slavkov Forest National Park. The family run guesthouse and restaurant Hradní Bašta has been extensively renovated over the last 7 years. The guesthouse comprises two parts. One is the old, one storey house from 1761 that has recently been renovated and has a gateway leading to the former Jewish quarters (the so called Jewish Gate). Before WWII a hat-maker, Anton Wölfl used to live here. During the reconstruction works a lot of attention was paid to maintaining the original character of the building, the original timber framed walls were preserved together with the wooden floors and ceilings. The upper restaurant, wine cellar and 8 rooms are situated in this renovated part of the house. The new extension houses 9 rooms, the lower restaurant, a conference hall and a wine shop."
