Chaussitre est une éminence magique à laquelle s’attache une multitude de légendes (la Pierre St Martin, la Pierre Pingaule…).
Repère et appel pour tous les habitants du plateau de Saint-Genest-Malifaux, il culmine à 1240m d’altitude. Une table d’orientation a été installée vers la croix à 1215m.
Il s’agit d’un mont isolé recouvert de landes sommitales. L’intérêt paysager est évident car il offre une vision à 360° permettant, par temps clair, de découvrir 36 clochers.
