With the history of mascots been long and colorful, it's amazing that the first Olympic mascot did not appear until 1968.
For the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble, Schuss, a cartoon character on skis became the Olympics' first unofficial mascot.
The Olympics did not adopt an official mascot until the 1972 games in Munich. Waldi, a colorful striped dachshund became the first official mascot of the Olympic Games.
We discovered Schuss on an informative board located at the Bastille, a fortress overlooking the city of Grenoble. The Grenoble Games were the 10th occurrence of the Winter Olympic Games.
See our waymark WMJW4W for pictures of the cityscape of Grenoble from la Bastille. (
