The historic 1904 McFarland House at 923 Third Street in Eureka, California. One of six houses built between 1885 and 1904 as part of a development by S.W. McFarland. This Neo-Classical one-story, simply detailed, house has two pedimented bay windows flanking a central pedimented front entrance portico. The hip roof contains two dormers on the front with pediment gables. Eaves contain boxed cornices each with a plain frieze. On the east side is another bay window with dormer. The structure rests on a pier and post foundation with shiplap siding and double hung windows with plain molding.
Eureka Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1991 and includes 23 blocks of “Old Town” Eureka. The district contains a total of 161 contributing structures including a distinctive Victorian commercial area, waterfront warehouses, and residential buildings.
