Niels Ryberg Finsen was Denmark's first Nobel laureate and one of the Danish medicine biggest names .

Niels Finsen was born in Torshavn in the Faroe Islands 15 December 1860 and was the son of a Danish official who was born in Iceland. Finsens mother, who came from duchies died only 31 years old.
Niels Finsen spent his childhood in the Faroe Islands and was 14 years old sent to Herlufholm boarding school outside Næstved . Due to language difficulties , Niels Finsen initially find it difficult to keep up at school and was sent to Reykjavik , where he received his high school diploma.
He then moved into Regensen as Icelandic students had preference to stay at Regensen . He spent his year of study as a medical student .

Even as a young doctor back in 1887 begins Niels Finsen to take an interest in light and especially sunlight effects on the body and various diseases. But gradually focused his interest on skin tuberculosis ( lupus vulgaris) , which was an incurable slowly killing disease in which patients were completely disfigured . Niels Finsen developing a number of devices that can use sunlight to treat this disease and, increasingly, electric lamps , known Finsenlys which dramatically changed the treatment results .

Finsens attitude of being open to new treatment came to have profound implications for cancer treatment at a time when there were big discussions about the location of Radium Centre in Copenhagen . National Board of Finsen Institute opened up the Radium Centre could be placed on the property on Beach Boulevard , and the transparency was to blame for that managed the first real cancer treatment center in Denmark .
