The Linsley Institute building was constructed in 1859. The building was built as part of a military academy. The building was designed by architect Henry Coen in an Italian Revival styling which was later altered Renaissance Revival detailing. The building served the military academy until 1925.
The building also served a key role in the history of West Virginia. The building served as the state capitol of West Virginia from June 20, 1863 until 1870 and then again from 1875 to 1876.
The building has now been converted to professional offices.
