Pioneer Courthouse (1869-7; 1893; west wing addition 1903), Originally the U.S. Courthouse, is located at 555 SW Yamhill as well as 520 SW Morrison Street. The main entrance (Pioneer Post Office entrance) is now located on the west side on SW Sixth Avenue.

Pioneer Courthouse (1869-7; 1893; west wing addition 1903), originally the U.S. Courthouse, was located at 555 SW Yamhill as well as 520 SW Morrison Street. The main entrance (Pioneer Post Office entrance) is now located on the west side of SW Sixth Avenue. Architect: Alfred Bult Mullet (Mullett)/Addition: James Knox Taylor. Italianate Renaissance style. Pioneer Courthouse is the oldest Federal Building (remaining public building) in the Northwest.Pioneer Courthouse created a controversy among Portlanders upon its construction. They felt that it had been built too far away from the heart of downtown. Some locals recommended setting up a Pony Express station to link the Post Office in Pioneer Courthouse with the city's center located along the Willamette River.
