About the history of probably in the early 13th Century castle built little is known. With the acquisition of the hill on which it was built, by Count Henry I of Zweibrücken in 1198 the castle's history began. It was either destroyed in the Peasants' War in 1525 or earlier left to decay.
In 1900 a stone staircase at the rock built around the platform of the castle rock will reach out to them to use as a lookout. This stone staircase was renovated by the municipality Pirmasens-Land in 2007. [1] Presumably, formerly led a wooden staircase in the castle.
