At Muir Woods National Monument in California, a slice of a redwoods tree was put on display in 1930. Examination of growth rings show the tree was 1021 years old.

Muir Woods National Monument is one of he last stands of old-growth redwood forest on Earth. Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) trees have reached heights of 379 feet (115.5m) and are the tallest living organisms on Earth.

Along the walking trail in the park is a slice of a Coast Redwood tree that fell in 1930. Tree rings determined the age of the tree to be 1021 years. The tree slice has some rings marked with a world event of that time.
