Beyond Manzanita (Hall) is a wooden tramway, picturesque between a long sweep of lawn and the end of MANZANITA LAKE a shallow cup set in green banks with weeping willows sweeping the edges.
Manzanita Lake is actually a reservoir that contains a concrete dam at the south end that was constructed by the WPA in 1940 (same year as this Nevada publication). The WPA also created an irrigation canal that meanders its way northeast into Sparks, NV, becoming Orr Ditch and providing a couple of golf courses with water. You can visit the WPA Projects waymark to this dam and irrigation canal here. It should also be mentioned that the wooden tramway mentioned in the book has been replaced by the current concrete dam and walkway.
