In Arlington, north of Route 2 and in a residential neighborhood, is Menotomy Rocks Park.
The park is bounded by several roads. The main entrance is on Jason Road. I ended up parking at the junction of Churchill Ave and Valley Road to the north. It is generally squarish in shape, with a pond and a low, flat, mostly grassy area on the eastern side, and varied wooded landscape that rise to a rocky mount on the northern side. The
The park is meant to be for hiking for generally hiking-walking type activities. There are trails throughout the property. None are that steep but do watch your step with rocks and roots. The elevation difference between the pond and the mount is less than 100 ft.
Sites mention that the pond could ice-over enough in the winter to support ice skating - however, the thickness is not monitoried, so use is at the person's own risk. Fishing is allowed - though it isn't a very big pond - swimming is not allowed.
The park was acquired by the town around 1939 and is maintained by the Arlington Recreation Department. A citizen board, Friends of Menotomy Rocks provides advice and supporting care.
