The posted co-ordinates refer to one of three public parking areas for the arboretum.
The Dominion Arboretum dates back to 1889. The arboretum is adjacent to the Central Experimental Farm and is presently part of the federal department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
The climate in Ottawa produces cold winters and hot summers. The microclimate at the arboretum alongside Dow's Lake is milder, allowing for the growth of species such as Magnolias, Azaleas, Metasequoia and Liriodendron.
The 26 hectare site hosts more than 175 000 visitors annually. The arboretum collection includes more than 4 000 trees and shrubs representing 56 families. Most of the trees are identified by signs and many of the trees also host memorial signs of dedication.
