A pink quartzite boulder recalls the distinguished service of the men of the 2nd US Cavalry Regiment, erected on the centennial of their Regiment's formation. The boulder stands at the back of the Fort Riley parade grounds in a place of honor and tradition on this historic Army post.
The plaque reads as follows:
"In memory of
THE GALLANT DEAD
of the
SECOND U S CAVALRY
Dedicated by their Comrades
On the
100th Anniversary
Of their Regiment
May 2, 1936"
All visitors to the waymark should be aware that Fort Riley is a closed base. The museums on board are usually open to the public, but public access to them can be curtailed at any time due to operational or security needs of the Army. All visitors to the base must sign in at the Fort Riley front gate and present photo identification, proof of insurance, and proof of US citizenship to come on board the post.
