ENG:
Trolls and superstition
During a stay in Denmark in 1896 created the Hansen Jacobsen - in a cellar under the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen - an angry and wild troll. It has been whereabouts of a Christian mankind and sneaks on them to strike his claws into them. Trolls belong in the popular superstition that in Hansen Jacobsen's time still was very much alive.

The troll was exhibited at Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition 1897 in the department of decorative art , not in the department of sculpture. It is possible that Niels Hansen Jacobsen - an extension of symbolic thought that all good art is decorative - has chosen this location.

After the great exhibition in 1901 offered Hansen Jacobsen, brewer Carl Jacobsen that he could buy all the sculptures at half the price, if he would let them exhibit publicly . Carl Jacobsen bought only ' A Troll who scenting a Christian "and" Death and the Mother ' The rest of the sculptures had to be stored in the cellars beneath the ruins of Christiansborg Palace. The troll was cast in bronze for funds from Jesus Church Fund , and placed in front of the church in Valby reaching its claws toward the worshipers as the bogey of superstition and evil.
