In 1814, the First Presbyterian Church sold a small portion of land to Robert Wilson. Mr. Wilson constructed a three-story narrow brick house, which now serves as the rear of the present house.

In 1860, Charles Billmeyer purchased the property and began construction of a stately town home. The house was built by Mr. Billmeyer and completed by 1866.

The Billmeyer House was passed to George S. Billmeyer, a son, in 1875. In 1917, after Billmeyer's widow's death, her executors conveyed the property to the Historical Society of York County. In 1959, The First Presbyterial Church purchased the property, reassembling their original land grant.

Today the church's administrative offices are housed in the house.

Mr. Billmeyer was probably one of the most prominent and affluent individuals living in York, providing jobs for some 600 local people. Mr. Billmeyer was a railroad car manufacturer.
