Lovejoy has bought an expensive ceramic for a client. Unfortunately the client has had an accident and is in no position to buy the object. Unfortunately this leaves Lovejoy skint, except for his emergency fund he keeps in a tin in the workshop.
Lovejoy accompanies Lady Jane to Scotland to value a piece of furniture for Katriona Brooksby, a friend of Lady Jane. Eric is house sitting for Lovejoy whilst he is away, but he pops out to the pub. At the pub he meets Sandra, the daughter of a house clearer. Eric notices a mirror in the back of their van and ends up buying the van load using Lovejoy’s emergency fund.
Lovejoy, in Scotland, discovers valuable fresco’s in an Italianate pig sty. Unfortunately the pig sty has been bought by a corrupt business man. Lovejoy plants a stolen mirror, part of Eric’s dodgy purchase, on the business man and threatens to tell the police unless he gives the pig sty back to Katriona.
