The sign on the overpass above Interstate 495, on the J.F.Kennedy Boulevard in Union City, New Jersey boasts to the embroidery trade that was deeply entrenched in this area of the city back in 1872. Various stories indicate the embroidery factories moved here because the huge machines that made lace and did the embroidery work were so big and so powerful that they had to be placed on solid bedrock---which can be found here in Union City.
