One of the most picturesque spots in Maryland. GEORGE WASHINGTON came here many times and built canal locks on the Virginia side to make the river navigable for his "Potomac Company."

More info about the site/marker (optional): This marker is near the entrance to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. Here one can hike along the canal towpath and take the trail to Olmstead Island to see the spectacular view of the Great Falls of the Potomac.
