According to the official hansard of the Parliament of Canada, the tree was planted 05 May 2000. Planting was attended by parliamentarians Herb Grey, Ralph E Goodale, essay contest winners and other guests.
Despite the fact that the plaque is hidden, the tree is easy to spot. It is the only tree on the lawn east of the Confederation Building. The tree is only five feet tall. The tree is roped off.
