St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1859. The congregation built a church on this site in 1860. The first church was more of a Greek Revival style building. In 1891 the church was rebuilt incorporating the old in to the current Gothic Revival style structure. The current building has Gothic arched stained glass windows along with an arched entryway. The stone church has a steeple in its southeast corner.

The building continues to serve its active congregation and appears to be in excellent condition.
