The upper reaches of the Otava river and its tributaries were frequent places of gold washing in past. The small settlement called Rejštejn (from German "Reichenstein" = "rich stone") arose here in the Middle Ages. After the termination of gold mining in the 17th century the glass-blowing developed here. The glassworks called Klášterský Mlýn ("Monastic Mill"), founded in 1836. The glassworks worked till 1947.
The most interesting sight of the village is the St. Bartholomew's Church, which is first mentioned in 1570. It was reconstructed in the Baroque style in 1792. The bell in the dome originates from the 14th century.

Na horním toku Otavy a na jejích prítocích se od pradávna rýžovalo zlato. Pri rýžovištích vznikla postupem casu osada Rejštejn (nemecky Reichenstein - Bohatý kámen). V 17. století težba zlata v okolí mesta koncila a postupne ji zacala nahrazovat rozvíjející se sklárská výroba. Roku 1836 byla založena sklárna zvaná Klášterský Mlýn. Její provoz byl ukoncen v roce 1947.
Mezi architektonickými památkami je nejvýznamnejší kostel svatého Bartolomeje, pripomínaný roku 1570. V roce 1792 byl prestaven v barokním slohu. V cibulové báni je zavešen gotický zvon ze 14. století.
